You used to carry the tree
Unwillingly just for me
I used to cover it with hearts
Made of clear glass
And a felted robin
That I’d since lost in the battle
Though I managed to save
My favourite beaded apple
Last night a stranger carried my tree
So happily, brought it here
He said he fights fires and saved a life
But my fire had long gone out
And I don’t need saving from being blue
So, I said “thank you and here’s some wine
But that is all I can give to you.”
And I smiled and said goodbye
I won’t have Christmas of blue this year
It will be red and green and white
Here in my castle above a stream
I have my tree and it’s burning bright
Burning bright

Just Like Christmas

On our way from Stockholm
It started to snow
And you said it was like Christmas
But you were wrong
It wasn’t like Christmas at all
By the time we got to Oslo
The snow was gone
And we got lost
The beds were small
But we felt so young
It was just like Christmas
